This is a guide about how to add a TV guide to your Windows 7 – Windows Media Center fully based on ASTRO TV Channel listing. After you have successfully setup the TV guide, you will be able to view your TV channel listing just like the ASTRO’s channel guide. If you do a lot of TV recording then this might get handy because all you need to do is just select the show from the TV guide and press the record key on your remote control. That’s it. You don’t have to manually setup the recording start time and ending time. Your TV guide will also have summary of the show written at the bottom of the screen.
Tools:-
- Internet line.
- TVxb program. (Download it here).
- Modified copy of tvxb.ini file (Download the file here).
Before you begin your TV Guide setup, you should have setup your HTPC TV Tuner card and successfully do the scanning of the available channel before proceeding to this TV guide setup. This guide is written for Windows 7 Media Center only.
Step One:-
After you have downloaded the TVxb program, start the setup and install it into your HTPC system. Once your setup is done , be prepare to edit your tvxb.ini file, where the default location of the file will be at C:\ProgamData\TVxb\ini\ .You will need to set your computer to show up hidden files , before you can see the ProgramData folder in the C drive. You should be able to see the file extension of each file in your computer, so that you will know which is the exact file you are looking for. Refer to the images below to enable hidden files and file extension.






Step Two:-
Once you found your TVxb.ini file, replace the file with the modified copy that you have downloaded earlier. If you haven’t done so, download the file from here. Before you overwrite the file, please make a backup copy of TVxb.ini file, just in case you need the default original file. Once you have finish replace the file, close all your folder.

Step Three:-
We need to test the setup so that we are sure to be able to download the TV guide straight from ASTRO website. The following step will need you to have an internet line ready.
Go to your TVxb program folder from the Start Menu and click Download Guide. A pop up window will show a download progress. Once the download finish, it will close by itself automatically.


Step Four:-
Now you need to setup a scheduled task to run TVxb automatically to update your TV Guide. Open your Task Scheduler. (Start > Accessories > System Tools). Create a new task and follow all the setting as shown in the images below.


Setup all your setting based on the images below.
General Setup.

Triggers Setup.
Click new button to create a new trigger and edit the setting based on the image below.

Actions Setup.
Click new button to create a new action for this task and edit the setting based on the image below.

Conditions Setup.
Click the conditions tab and edit the setting based on the image below.

Settings Setup.
Click the settings tab and edit the setting based on the image below.

Step Five:-
Test run your newly created task to make sure it works. Refer to the images below for the details. If your task runs successfully you are all done.

Now all you need is to hook up your internet line to your HTPC system leave your system in a standby mode. The system will automatically update the TV Guide from ASTRO every day at 8:00pm.
